The Story Behind Jet's Pizza

Jet's pizza was born in the heart of New York City in 1995 — a bold vision to bring Detroit-style deep-dish pizza to the streets of Manhattan with jets pizza passion built into every crust.

Founded by Chef James "Jet" Ellison, our story began in a small kitchen on 2nd Avenue with nothing more than a brick oven, hand-sourced ingredients, and an unwavering belief that great pizza changes lives. Word spread quickly. By our second year, lines stretched around the block every Friday night.

Today, Jet's pizza remains family-owned and fiercely independent — still using the same original dough recipe, still sourcing from local New York farms, and still welcoming every guest like they're coming home for dinner.

The First Oven Lights Up

Chef James "Jet" Ellison opens Jet's pizza on 2nd Avenue, New York. A single brick oven, 12 seats, and the most ambitious dough recipe the city had ever tasted.

1995

New York Magazine's Best Pizza

Just four years in, Jet's pizza earns its first major accolade — named Best New Pizza in New York by New York Magazine. The phone lines never stopped ringing.

1999

Expanding the Family

We expand our kitchen, double our team, and launch our first catering service for New York's top corporate events and private celebrations.

2005

Online Ordering Launched

Jet's pizza goes digital — launching online ordering and local delivery across Manhattan. Fresh jet's pizza arrives at your door, piping hot, within 45 minutes.

2012

Sustainability Commitment

We partner with 6 local New York farms, switch to fully compostable packaging, and introduce our sustainable sourcing charter — because great pizza should be good for the planet too.

30 Years & Still Crafting
